The Science is sound

Guided by scientific research and fueled by artistic passion, we create music to promote health and wellbeing. Through literature reviews and bespoke commissioned research, we bridge the gap between art and science, unlocking music’s therapeutic potential across diverse sectors—from spas and hospitality to hospitals, schools, and even in the comfort of your own home. SleepScore Labs

Myndstream collaborated with SleepScore Labs to quantify the consumer benefits and user experience of two proprietary medleys designed for sleep. The overall aim of the study was to test whether participants would experience improved sleep when listening at bedtime to music designed for sleep. Objective sleep data were collected using SleepScoreMax, a non-contact monitor that unobtrusively and objectively measures sleep at home.

The study, presented at the 17th World Sleep Congress, found that participants who listened to the medleys experienced:

  • Experienced 4.2 hours more of ‘deep sleep’ on average per month.
  • Increased sleep efficiency to 85%. This is considered to reflect good sleep quality.
  • Increased sleep maintenance to 91%
  • Self-reported a higher quality of sleep than participants who were not listening to Myndstream music (11% difference).

Alpas Wellness x Timbaland

As Timbaland’s wellness music release was inspired by his own journey through addiction to wellness, Myndstream partnered with the University of Pennsylvania and Alpas Wellness Rehabilitation Clinic to run a listening session of the music with patients at the centre.

What we measured: The impact of the music using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and an Art Impact Taxonomy Questionnaire.

The results: In the small sample we worked with, the analysis shows a decrease in stress after listening to the album, as measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. The impact taxonomy revealed that participants primarily felt calm, enlightened, and inspired after listening to the music.

Audio Visual Intervention

We are also partnering on an ongoing Observational Study with the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics and Alpas Wellness Rehabilitation Clinic.

What we are investigating: The impact and value of different therapeutic tools to both patients and healthcare staff at the rehabilitation treatment centre. Myndstream is specifically focused on the value of audio-visual interventions.

How we are measuring: A combination of qualitative and quantitative data gathering through standardised questionnaires and biometric monitoring via wearable technology.

In Pursuit of Wellness–Music for Neurodiversity

Music for Neurodiversity is a film produced by Myndstream and BBC Storyworks Commercial Productions. The film explores the impact of music on wellbeing within education, particularly with neurodivergent children, such as children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Myndstream sought to better understand how its music could help in educational environments. Playlists were carefully curated to cater to varying musical requirements and tested across four distinct parts of the children’s day: Individual focus, Quiet time, Sleep time, Play time, Observational data gathering. The film won the Gold Award for Best Native Advertising Program B2C.

The film features Professor Adam Ockleford, a music psychologist from London’s University of Roehampton, alongside Freddie Moross, Founder of Myndstream.
